Behavior Intervention SpecialistThe Student Support Specialist will work primarily with the Dean of Students and Culture to support in the implementation of a culture of excellence for all students primarily developing systems that solve disciplinary issues, academic and non-academic issues, in order to ensure that students are getting the support they need to maintain high levels of performance. The Behavior Support Specialist will assist in bringing awareness, concurrent accountability and behavioral change through relationships and a supportive community toward our standard for excellence.Founded in 1997, EastSide Charter School is a free, public elementary school that educates students in Wilmington, Delaware. EastSide prides itself on being a community-based school, using multiple partnerships, strong relationships with families, and a dedicated and hard-working faculty to ensure academic success for its students.EastSide is in the midst of a dynamic turnaround effort that will have a profound impact in Wilmington.Members of the EastSide leadership team play a significant role in ensuring that our students develop the character and skills necessary to being influential and contributing members of the community and global society. This position is suited for someone who is willing to do "Whatever it Takes" to support our students in being successful in school and in life.Major Responsibilities and DutiesPrimary teacher and classroom support for intervening to address student discipline issues and concerns K-4 and then follow up with individual teachers to develop consistent plan of action to create preventive methods.Support and reinforce Climate Program with discipline procedures and proactive supports for student dress code, discipline, school events and other policies related to maintaining a positive school culture of learning and achievement;Communicate daily with parents to facilitate parent education and involvement, including reinforcing the need for parents to support the school's policies and practices;Monitor and coordinate transportation needs and rectify issues and work with teachers to coordinate bus procedures and behavior management process.Support teachers in implementing transitions and routines that provide more proactive measures to decrease behavior issues.De-escalate and provide reflection tools for student mis-behaviors and then developing a re-integration plan.Use the State and City-wide Standards of Intervention and Discipline Measures (the Discipline Code) as a primary tool to standardized behavioral expectations of students which includes a range of guidance interventions and a range of permissible disciplinary and intervention measures to address misbehavior.QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess the following:Experience:At least 1 year of school intervention experience (3 years preferred)Experience working in an urban school environment requiredSkills/Traits:Be driven to improve the minds and lives of students from underserved communities; dedicated to doing whatever it takes to help all students achieve academic successBe passionate about creating a safe academic learning environmentBe self-aware and know how to treat all members of the school's community with respect, appraises accurately his or her strengths and weaknesses, and is perceptive about how he or she is regardedWork urgently and be able to juggle multiple tasks and initiatives at onceAct entrepreneurially as an initiator, problem-solver, and creative thinkerPossess strong written communication skillsBe able to juggle multiple tasks and initiatives at onceBe detail-oriented and self-directed and able to work independently on short- and long-term projectsSatisfactory criminal, child abuse, and FBI clearancesCommitment and CompensationLength of Work Year: 10 months plus occasional evening and weekend commitments will also be requiredSalary and Benefits: Salary range is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
